To get a top position in Google's natural listings must I have a high PageRank

This question has been asked by numerous clients recently. In the view of Slick-Click The notion that the higher the Page Rank (PR) the higher the ranking is simply not true despite the fact that many Webmasters and SEO ‘experts’ still give this more emphasis than it deserves. PR is a links analysis that gives credence to websites based on the relevant content contained within. Although it is a good indication of how authoritative or relevant a website is it does not influence the position in which a website ranks on Google listings.

To see an example of this type ‘motor homes’ into Google. The website sat at number 5 has a Google Page Rank of 0. The website sat at the bottom of the page at number 10 has a Page Rank of 4. Both are relevant sites selling ‘motor homes’. Surely, the higher page rank website should outrank the PR zero website?

Actually, no. This obsession held by some webmasters that PR is an all encompassing factor in regard to high search engine ranking has resulted in them misguidedly buying and selling links that pass page rank and disregarding the sources and the long term impact it will have on their websites. This type of practice is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can result in the site being penalised and ultimately impact negatively on a website's ranking in search results.

The best SEO strategy is to not chase a higher Page Rank but to approach your campaign with common sense. SEO is not ‘rocket science’ and it isn't a Page Rank competition. Your website needs to be simple for Google to navigate and crawl, relevant and unique content on each page, intelligent user friendly keyword placement and weighting, and quality inbound links to create a strong link profile. Get these factors right and high Google rankings will follow. And you may even pick up some Google Page Rank along the way!

In the Joomla CMS Is it possible to change the types of menu entries?

You indeed can change the menu items type to whatever you want, even after they have been created. If you for instance want to change the blog section of a menu link, jump to the back end and edit the menu item. Push the "change type" button and select the details for the menu you want to assign.
